Mountain hiking

The baque country is surrounded with beautiful nature and majestetic mountains and this has influenced the basque culture. A true basque knows his mountains, and goes there every so often.
As students trying not only to grasp what is being taught in class, but also intenting to involve ourselves in what happens outside of the class room, we have on several occasions packed our backpacks and moved into the wild. For some time at least.

A few weeks posteriour of our arrival we had our first, real mountain trip. The destination was Jata, a small mountain close to the little town called Bakio. The area is beautiful and pitoresque, and the weather and temperature this day was good for this kind of trip.

The basque country really is beautiful

Where to go?

The typical Basque Caserío, basque house

After having walked for some time we arrived to a beautiful place with a church, a forest and some houses. And a wonderful view.

Happy finally having reached the top!

Some tree leaves I have never seen before in my life.

The colours of autumn

After having reached the top and our destination, we continued further down to Bakio. On out way we had a break, and everybody filled up their energy tanks by eating bocadillos(sandwiches) and water. I also had the chance to get to know other exchange students during the lunch break, like Anna from Kazakstan and Gaby from Mexico. We also had an encounter with a creature I had not seen before.

Cute little guy

After an hour walk again we ended up in Bakio. The beach there is just amazing, it was all worth it when we could digg our feet in the sand and just stare at the sea.
Some brave souls among us couldn't resist and dived right into the waves. Freezing I suppose but after a couple of hours walk it must have been perfect!

Bakio, basque mountains, beach...see you soon!
